"Every good and perfect gift comes from above"
James 1:17

Even though my kids are only 2 and 3, I am constantly thinking about their future. I'm sure you are too, and I don't feel extremely alone in those thoughts when I talk to my fellow Mommy friends, but when you think about their future, what do you hope and pray for? Answer that question in your mind before reading on...
Do you pray for them to be happy? Or for all their dreams to come true? Is it that you want them to be a good person?...
While those hopes are all well and good, if your first priority for your little ones future isn't for them to know and love Jesus...I'm afraid their spiritual development may suffer.
Matthew 16:26 says...
"What good will it be for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul"
This scripture should be a strong conviction for any parent. We could give children the world or teach them to obtain it..but without teaching them a fear and love for The Lord it will all be meaningless for them. Let's try to read this scripture in a couple different ways, just to drive it home.
What good will it be for your child to be happy, yet forfeit their soul.
What good will it be for your child to have all their dreams come true, yet forfeit their soul.
What good will it be for your child to be a good person, yet forfeit their soul.
I do believe it is possible for our children to be happy, be good people, AND have all of their dreams come true. We just need to be focused, as parents, on building the right foundation for our children. A foundation on which they will make all their decisions on their entire life. We need to long first and foremost for our children to truly know the love of Jesus, then prioritize the nature of our parenting accordingly. Write this scripture in your heart (and maybe your mirror or fridge) and make helping your children learn the love of Jesus a daily task. One day at a time you can make such a difference in your little ones life. You can do it, Momma. The Lord has already given you all the tools you need to do it. Pray about it, daily. Let your little ones see you pray or even let them pray with you! What a joy it will be for you to see your child grow in love for Jesus.
