So, I was a christian for a long time before I felt comfortable praying out loud and I sometimes still kind of feel awkward or inadequate when I do. I wonder if I am the only one in this? I somehow doubt it. I want to take a second to tell you that it's ok if you feel this way too. It's ok if your prayer doesn't sound like other peoples. Others can make is seem so easy and sound so good. I feel like The Lord has given each person strengths in different areas and praying is one of those strength He gives. Maybe He gave you the gift of serving, teaching, wisdom or something else (you should know your spritual gifts so you can grow in that area) Most of us have this prayer in scripture memorized...
9 “Pray, then, in this way:
‘Our Father who is in heaven, Hallowed be Your name. 10 ‘Your kingdom come. Your will be done, On earth as it is in heaven. 11 ‘Give us this day our daily bread. 12 ‘And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. 13 ‘And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen."
But have you realized that He has already told you exactly how He wants you to pray? So you can stop wondering! Here, let me help a little more..
When you pray, try using this outline;
Thanksgiving - Thank Him for, well, whatever you're thankful for (I'm sure there are planty of things!)
Praise - Praise Him for who He is.
Confession - Confess your sin daily (multiple times daily)
Petition - Ask Him any requests you may have for Him.
Meditation - Meditate on His word and day and night so you will obey it.
Here are a couple other things to remember and tips for you...
Praying out loud when you are alone.
Accept that you don't pray like others.
Write your prayers down first
Ask close friends and family if you can pray for them, ask them specific prayer requests.
Spend time with The Lord in prayer on a daily basis so you become comfortable talking to Him.
Realize that God will be pleased no matter what, if your heart is in the right place.
I am so glad you are trying to grow closer to The Lord! You won't be sorry. I am praying for you, girl.
